What Did the Nazis Really Do To Transgender People

I find it weird that pre-Nazi Germany resonates strongly with pre-Trump America. Germany was actually far more accepting and supportive, both socially and scientifically. I'm now convinced that in the U.S., the support for trans folk was a lot softer than I had (naively) believed. The difference, it seems to me, was that trans people were being set up to take a fall for the entire progressive side of American politics; to be the scapegoats of progressive America. We were deviously made a central issue of the 2024 election, and state legislatures used transgender people and healthcare for trans citizens to whip their base into a hate frenzy.

I'm not sure this was the case in pre-Nazi Germany however, as there were clinics and academic work that dealt with gender dysphoria in a serious and considerate way (as the article ponts out).

Regrettably, as the article points out:

Things haven’t changed all that much in the days since. Given the chance, I have no doubt there are many in America who would gladly pick up where the Nazis were forced to let go. Seeing this sickens me, and knowing how close we are as a nation to such fascist sway, I can’t help but be deeply concerned.
